Isadora Duncan, free soul that she was, began a dance movement that has resulted in a dance technique that features these concepts: 1) That movement travels in rays through the body, originating and emanating from the solar plexus(the top of the ribcage, where the two sides connect, below the breastbone,) 2) There's so such thing as a straight line in nature, so, there are no straight lines in Duncan dance;. i.e. toes aren't pointed, there are no sharp edges, etc. 3) There is no forced turn-out;it's always an anatomical turn-out, 4) There is no bondage; even the strongest movements are in a free, more flowing style, 5) Duncan dancers are body, mind, emotions, spirit, and nature-embodied, 6) Dancing to the various types of waves in the world; such as wave patterns in water, light and sound, so as to rid the body of rigidity, 7) A sense of rhythm and exposure to singing, as a form of instruction, are both employed early in training, 8) There is a big emphasis on skipping and other expressions of buoyancy, 9) The core move is to find one's center in the solar plexus, breathe, and find oneself in harmony with the vastness of nature, music and the stimulus of others.
